New Mobile phone - What is a subsidy password

What is the above and where can i get it? Apparently the phone is unlocked and it seems to turn on with my Orange SIM card, although its a Motorola vodaphone.

Can anyone advise me?

not heard that term before.
might well be what motorola call their unlocking code.
does it happen with a sim of the original network (vodaphone?) but not the original sim?

just thought.
Vodafone do offer free unlocking of pay as you go mobiles if you've put enough credit on them since you've had the phone.
Might be another option depending on the situation
