I'm a photographer and even i had trouble understanding kempies link bless him!
In simpler terms in means that a processor is able to compensate when developing the film for over or under exposure.
It means a decent processor and printer can make up for some dubious photography on the takers part.
You can also use it creatively and push and pull film to get certain effects.
