I am having trouble with a Japanese purchased electrical appliance when trying to use it in the UK. I have a step down transformer connected, nothing seems to be going on. Can anyone help

What kind of an appliance is it? Are you absolutely sure no one else has tried to plug it into the mains directly. It sounds as if the appliance has blown. Need more info really to make any reasonable suggestion.
