Our TV has packed up this afternoon. Right in the middle of the Golf Open which is our thing!!

can you lovely people help spec a new one for us?

Our current set up is TV, hard Ethernet , Humac Box and Roku box.

I was just about to buy a new TV from Argos as we can collect from there tonight but checked the FAQ and realised it has no Ethernet.
Out internet isn't brilliant so I don't want to rely on the WiFi.

Just buy the tv you want but get a HDMI to Ethernet adapter.

This one looks good. I think.

I use Roku for apps not available on our TV so can probably still do that?

^For decent -sized room, I'd be wanting a (bit) bigger screen...and I certainly wouldn't be buying a new TV now that didn't come with Freely. You'll be needing that relatively soon.

^WITHOUT Freely! ie buy one WITH Freely.

yes you can still use Roku

This one is on offer and only £10 more than the one i your link, with larger screen and Freely

^I'd avoid Bush and stick with Hisense....

I reckon it will be at least 9 years before freeview is turned off and there is a real possibility of Freely boxes coming to the market to make all tvs able to receive Freely.

I wouldn't buy a Freely tv today.

Personally, I'd prefer Freely integrated into my newly-bought TV now than have a box added at some time in the future.

Have you got a Richer Sounds near you?  They are brilliant.

Possibly a good starting point.  (Filtered to only show sets with Ethernet connectivity, with the lowest priced first):

I've had my Samsung for years & it's probably not up to snuff regarding tech & picture quality. I didn't realise new TVs had got so cheap - 43" HD/freely/etc for under £200 seems a bargain.

I should change but I'm a bit loathe to discard something that still works allbeit imperfectly. What should I do with the old TV?

Maydup,

Did you buy one, and what brand etc?

Freely hasn't got the same amount of channels as free view  and you can't record any programmes

Thanks all. I was swayed by the ability to buy a collect the TV this evening and settled for:

Samsung 40 Inch UE40T5300AEXXU Smart Full HD HDR LED TV

£199.00

I ordered and collected it from an Argos about 15 miles away. It's in, connected to the Humax Box and the Roku widget thingy and we're up and running.

I'll have a play around with it over the weekend but for now it's just a screen for the Humax.

Glad you're sorted so quickly
