I made a mistake and bought frozen "microwave only" fish ,why do they assume that every one has a microwave
would I need to defrost it first to bake in the oven
I use frozen smoked haddock that you put straight in the oven but this is cod and a lot thicker

Wrap it in foil or greaseproof paper and put it in the oven. You could even fry it in butter with the lid on. Just make sure its cooked through before you eat it.
You could probably also poach it.
I bought frozen cod loins last week ...microwave or bake were the instructions. For some stupid reason, I microwaved. It was dry and just plain awful. Next time I'll poach...that's what several reviews suggested.

so I wrap in foil while still frozen?
Yes. Season well...add some butter.

thank you
How did you poach it Pastafreak? I bought some as well, last week, and it says to defrost it overnight in a fridge.
I haven't yet cashier. I know other reviewers( Sainsbury's) said milk....from frozen.
Thanks pasta freak, will check it out.
This looks good...I'd do it this way.

Is it a plain fillet of cod, no coating, dressing or stuffing?
I season and poach with milk and butter too. I add the liquid to more milk to make a white sauce base and add cheese or parsley. I never microwave fish.
Let it defrost then check recipes on the Net.
