The Postal Services Act 2000, states that: (1) A person commits an offence if, without reasonable excuse, he - (a) intentionally delays or opens a postal packet in the course of its transmission by post. So, if the address on the parcel is valid, it would seem to me that you can 1. get your postie to take it back or 2. take it yourself to the nearest Post Office for it...

Did the postman or a van deliver it?
This happened to me, I wrote to the person it was addressed to and she came and collected it herself.
Question Author
it was a van, Danny

but what IF it was royal mail?
Take it to the nearest post office tell them it was delivered in error. They can put it back into the system
Question Author
sorry, it was royal mail who delivered it.

Cheers rowan think that's going to be what i'm going to do. They literally have one job.. Managed to conk it.
Or you could ring the local sorting office and ask them to collect it.

Not a bad idea.. But i do need to pop to the post office at some point tomorrow so i'll do the kind thing and make all of the effort for them.
The Postal Services Act 2000, states that:

So, if the address on the parcel is valid, it would seem to me that you can 1. get your postie to take it back or 2. take it yourself to the nearest Post Office for it to be redirected or you can 3. take it to the proper address, yourself (especially if you choose the second option and the nearest PO is that side of the county. Or 4. you could contact the recipient and ask them to come and collect it.

Thank you Flonska, i shan't delay it, but the post man has 'unintentionally' done that by sending it my way :D
Thank you for the BA - much appreciated :-)
So glad I could be of assistance.
