How does it work that when you doubleclick into a question to view a thread the adverts change in relation to the discussion of the thread.

The adverts are provided by Google, and as such, use a variation on their search engine technology.
The ad service will automatically pick out what it believes to be key words (or words that crop up a number of times) then give relevant search results from it's database of listed companies.
