I don't know if any of you use the Streetlife local forums - they are quite useful in sharing local concerns and information.

Streetlife is closing soon and members are being invited to change over to using a forum called Nextdoor if they wish to maintain their local links.

If you receive an invite to transfer, you should think VERY carefully before registering with Nextdoor.

Nextdoor requires your full name and address AND WILL SHARE THIS WITH ALL OTHER LOCAL MEMBERS.

There is an option to withold your house number, but your street address WILL be shared as will your full name.

I registered with Nextdoor before realising this - it wasn't made clear and I think that's pretty poor.

I very rapidly deactivated my account there and will not be using the site - a shame, because I liked Streetlife.

Dave xx

No, sharing that info is too intrusive and has risks.

Thanks for the heads up. Guess I won't be moving Nextdoor either ☺☺☺
I received an email and hadn't done anything about it....thank goodness I saw this before I moved to Nextdoor.

I had a creepy stalker when I lived in Kettering.....I'd hate him to have my details.....

Shame....because I really liked Streetlife.....x
I am a regular Streetlife user but will not be moving Nextdoor. Thank you for this info.
Oh my word, my invitation to join has just arrived, spooky!

Please spread the word to your friends - I've already had one of my female friends in tears because it has potentially leaked her full name and address to an ex ... :(
I have transferred from Streetlife to Nextdoor using the email invite. Thankfully I used false details when I registered with Streetlife so it won't affect me

That's the annoying thing, hc4361 - I'd used 'dave' with no surname, but had verified my address on streetlife, knowing that it wouldn't be displayed.

Nextdoor insisted on a surname (fortunately I fibbed a bit), but it just picked up my full address from Streetlife and displayed it - for about 30 seconds before I deactivated :(
Thanks for the heads up, Dave. I have had the email but won't be moving Next Door now.
Ive also just had the email- how odd!
I'm keeping an open mind. Most people on Streetlife in my area use their full names especially when they have a trade or business to advertise, or stuff to give away or sell.
Nextdoor claims to be more private and safer but as I am the first and only it is impossible for me to see what the site looks like when it's up and running.
There is this option as well.

BEFORE YOU DEACTIVATE DID YOU KNOW?
You have the option to hide your full street address on your profile or to get help from Nextdoor Support with other privacy related issues.
If you are sure you want to deactivate, we’d love to hear any other suggestions you have for improving Nextdoor.
How can we improve Nextdoor?

Be careful - that's them being a bit economical with the precise truth, trt.

By "hide your full street address", they mean they'll hide your house number, but still display the street name.

I gave them some 'robust' feedback about their lack of openness.
I've had the email too. Thankfully I haven't done anything with it yet.
Just had a look at the Nextdoor Demo Website.......all posts have the full name of the poster.....if I have to post my full name...and if I can only remove my house number but not my road I think I'll stay well away......

Have I got that right, Dave?.....x
Question Author
That's exactly right, gness - which is fine if you know and trust every single person in your nextdoor locality ...
Hmmmm.....they say they want these details so that if I see my neighbours car lights on or if I have a parcel for them it's useful to know where they are.....

Even I could manage that without Nextdoor's help......☺
This is merely the electronic version of curtain twitching. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
