I wiped the screen of my flat screen tv with a damp (not wet) cloth, then buffed it dry with a dry flannel. Appears that Screen is "black and smeary behind screen, but def. no moisture ingress, what have i done wrong, and how can i rectify plz?

Perhaps if you put the TV on and let it warm up, things may improve? The only thing I use on my TV and laptop screens is a VERY SLIGHTLY damp (fine-textured) microfibre cloth, no chemicals and no "buffing" required. Perfect results (and no damage eg fine scratches) every time.

looking at this type of smearing on google search think might be time to scrap it
Like Ginge I always use a microfibre cloth.
