All of a sudden both front and rear wipers have stopped.
Is there a common fuse somewhere that could have blown

I did, it was singularly unhelpful

Possibly Fuse 94 in the glovebox fuses (Mk 3 Mondeo)

or Fuse 22 in the engine compartment fuses (Mk 4 Mondeo):

If both have stopped I doubt if it's a fuse, may need an auto electrician to take a look at it. Maybe a faulty stalk or a GEM issue ( GEM = general electronic module ).

Incidental to this:

Thanks to those who got back to me. I tracked down the fuse and it was
blown. I replaced the fuse and then turning on the wipers - I could hear the
motors making a whining noise then the fuse blew again. I am guessing there
is something wrong with the flippy floppy mechanism. Anyway, the car is booked in to the garage on Monday. Is it 'technically' illegal to drive a car with broken wipers. I would think it's pretty harsh nicking me on the way to the garage but I was just interested

Yep, could be one of the joints has seized on the flippy floppy mechanism.
