Had a quick google, plenty of examples of how to calculate % increase and decrease, but not the utilisation I want;

If you invite 269 people to an event and 177 turn up, what % have attended?

177 divided by 269
Multiply by 100

66%
Actually 65.79%
tilly....actually 65.80%, to two decimal places.
Yes, I know, but if YOU are correcting yourself...I may as well join in!
Doh! Thanks Ginge. :-)
A good rule: 177 AS a % OF 269 - AS/OF x 100. In words, AS over OF times 100.

Thanks all! will write that formula down as it comes in handy!
used to be good at percentages - but remembered from school that when a score comes up like tilly 65.79 which is correct - once the number after the dot becomes over 5 it rounds it up so in this case the "7" is over "5" - so it is make the percentage 66.
an easy way to remember this type is to think of it as a mark in a test - I got 177 out of 269 = 177/269

to make any test score in this format a percentage just multiply it by 100.
