around the edge of car windscreens (and sometimes a larger area around the rear view mirror) there are lots of little black dots, they also occure on bus windows, just wondering if anyone knows why they are there and if they are there for any specific reason?!?

The black border to the window is to help the adhesive to get a better grip.  The dots fade the black to clear.
Purely cosmetic as Skids says, just to hide the glue where older cars have rubber strip with a clean edge.
