The above phone is letting me dial out and has a ringing tone, but then stops and goes dead. There are no incoming calls either. It says on screen "check phone line and beneath that, charging" I have checked everything I can think of, and my internet is ok. Also no problems with talktalk. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Switch off the phone, then restart & see if it re-sets itself.

I have tried this TWR, but its still the same.
Have you fully charged the batteries?

It has come up "fully charged", but when I try it, its still the same.
try unplugging the base unit's AC adaptor to reset and turn off handset.Reconnect the adaptor, turn on handset and try again.
If it says "check phone line" that implies that the problem is to do with either the phone line itself, or the lead/socket from the base unit to the phone line. Presumably it's connected via a filter, as you have broadband. It could be a faulty filter.
Have you got another phone to try?
