Hi all. My current laptop is about 4 years old or so. It has windows vista classic and I'm thinking of upgrading to windows 8. I have just tried to use the upgrade assistant and it keeps coming up with internal error: error checking for compatibility. Has anyone tried to use the assistant? or had this message? it's driving me mad as I only want to know if my laptop is compatible before I go ahead and buy it. TIA

Well my pc is less than two years old. I was very keen to upgrade to W8 but there is so much incompatible I'm not going to bother just yet. I will recheck in a few weeks to see if there are new drivers etc.
My laptop is 4 years old and last week Curry's installed Windows 8 for me and so far no major problems.
