How to install a Sony Hi8 Handycam in XP

I have a Sony Hi8 Handycam which my XP OS will not recognise.
I also have a Logitech Webcam which works fine but not the Sony.
I've tried everything I know without success including extensive internet searches including the Sony site but nothing helps.
Could it be that the Sony has some weird file system that XP doesn't recognise?
After 3 weeks of searching I'm now quite desperate so please, if you have any ideas I'd be grateful if you would post them as soon as poss.
