Can anyone tell me the spread of cherrytree roots, fruiting or flowering. My daughter is moving and has dug up and potted a 3yr.old fruiting cherry, trained as a standard, we have no idea of the rootstock, with the idea of planting it in her new 10ft.square front garden. I'm sure I've read somewhere that Cherry roots are invasive,so I'm a bit concerned. Any advice welcome .Thanks.

The roots of a tree are generally as long as the branches.
As a general rule the size of the tree above the ground is the size of the root system below the ground, unless you've pruned the top growth.
Isn't that what I already said?
More or Less!
Mmm.

Yes it's trained as a Standard, so what do I tell her to do??
Personally, I wouldn't plant a tree within 10ft of my house.
I wouldn't plant a tree closer than about 3.5 meters from my property.
SA...I agree with everything you have said.
