you can have halal red meat....

I thought when they killed the animal the blood is allowed to drain out. Also we went to Lidl and they had halal meat for sale. It didn't look so appetising as the red colour had drained away.
its the same thing, just halal!! slaughtered in a different way. Just don't eat too much red meat halal/not halal, its not good for you in huge quantity.
Its best to have some meat free days altogether. Try fish one day and a vegetable curry for example on on another.
rov...yer havin" a giraffe! ;-)
It's still reddish - the blood is away, but the meat's still the same. Halal meat's very nice, sweeter than conventional - our local butcher only sells halal chicken, as it's cheaper to buy in.
I once saw a Halal butcher's van in a lay-by, being loaded up with meat from a non-Halal butcher's van. Probably need to find a reputable Halal butcher.
wish our lidl sold it rov, i have to go miles to the halal butcher but lidl is just across the road from me :(
Pix - you probably have, but have you asked your local butcher? Ours had no idea he was selling halal chicken until I asked him for it - it was on the box of chicken breasts but he thought it was a trade name (yes really....)
I 'think' Kosher meat may actually have a possibility of being slightly more 'natural' as the Kosher process involves more than just the slaughter, it's extended to the feed and extended care. I may be wrong, but this is how I've had it explained to me when we lived in the Middle East many years ago.
yeah i did boxy, he actually looked at me in disgust and growled out NO... lol at yours thinking it was a trade name

sorry for hijack rov
I understand that a lot of meat sold in Tesco is halal too (there was a thread on here about this a few months back).
99% of ALL New Zealand lamb is halal.
Still looks red.
Not the pork though, boxtops :)
thats bad sherradk :( the butcher i use is okay, we know exactly where the meat comes from, my husband used to work at the abattoir
oh thanks for that boxy i might check that out :)
no indeed hc, nor the bacon.
pdust, the lamb in Tesco isn't marked as Halal, although my large Tesco does sell Halal meat, but if it came from NZ it is Halal.
Red meat is red meat - regardless of the method of slaughter.
halal or kosher is the same thing ... basically slaughtered the animal in a different way, with a prayer... if you want to eat halal meat, am sure not a problem, just eat in a moderation.
