does an invoice have to have your own address on?

is there a rule that says your address must be on it - if you are freelance and self employed?

No.

An invoice is a simple request for payment.

You can use one of those little invoice books if you like, and they have no address on.

Unless you are trading as a limited company ... in which case there are stricter rules set out in the Companies Acts.
We were always trading as a Ltd company. My question still stands, why wouldn't you though?

Sole traders' invoices

A sole trader must have the following additional information on their invoices:

the trader's name or any business name being used
an address where any legal documents can be delivered to you if you are using a business name
