Britons 'Would Pay More For Environmentally-Friendly Goods'

We are all trying to do our bit to save the Earth. Whether it is recycling our household waste or trying to buy goods without too much packaging it all helps. It seems that we are also prepared to spend a little more as well.

New research has found that people in Britain would be willing to fork out more for environmentally-friendly products.

According to a well known online bank, some 18.4 million people in the UK would be willing to support environmental concerns by picking up organic, recycled and energy-efficient goods.

The bank added that close to three-quarters (71 per cent) of people buy fruit and vegetables grown in Britain, with women more likely to do so than men.

The director of the bank remarked that such environmental concerns among Britons are "great".

He said: "It's going to be difficult to keep buying more expensive environmentally sound products, but making the most of supermarket special offers and cash back deals will help those who wish to continue to help the environment."

Top tips to help save the environment:

•    Switch off electrical items when you are not using them. Also change all your light bulbs to energy saving ones.
•    Use renewable energy resources. You can investigate which power supply companies use renewable resources to provide power by doing a search online. Many providers have eco tailored packages as well.
•    Use rechargeable batteries. These can be reused many times. Normal batteries cannot be recycled and take up landfill. Also they contain toxic chemicals which harm local environments and wildlife.
•    Organise a carpool for work.
•    Try to avoid using disposable items.
•    Avoid using plastic items if possible. Bags, cups, nonsense plastic items you don’t need; they only go to landfill and can be toxic to wildlife, particularly sea creatures.
•    Stop some of your junk mail. Contact companies who send catalogues you don’t read and ask them to stop.
