Anti-grafitti paint?

Since a well-known fast food so-called restaurant opened near to us, we have been plagued with the scribblings of illiterate teenagers on the gable end wall of our house, which is rendered, with an ordinary white exterior paint finish.

I'm seeking a product which I'm sure I haven't imagine d- I've heard of it. You scrub off the grafitti, of course, and then apply this substance, which is then so 'glossy' that thereafter markers or sprays will not write on its surface - it just goes into 'globules' and runs off. Does anyone know where I can get such a thing?

The problem is such that I almost don't mind if I have to buy industrial quantities just to knock the problem on the head..

I apologise for the illiterate nature of a post which mentions illiteracy! Although I'm far from being a 'perfect person with perfect cushions' (stop digging, Clare!), here goes:

The second paragraph should begin: I'm seeking a product - I'm sure I haven't imagined that I've heard of it.

hre's a website Clare, if you google on "anti grafitti paint", there are loads more

Your council might be prepared to help you out providing materials etc. Worth giving them a quick ring!
I've been thinking about this, and have a new plan. Why not arrange an appointment with the top manager at the local fast food place. Explain very politely your problem, and that they caused it etc, and ask whether they might be willling to contribute. They might arrange to have it painted or help with the cost. The council might also ask them to take some responsibility. It is always worth a quick letter up the chain to a regional manager. After all the good pr is worth a quick paint job.

Thanks, cassimer & woofgang.

I've spoken to those Tor Coatings people on the phone already, and they haven't quite got what I'm after - though nearly so. You see, if I'm to apply a product after each bout of 'scribbling', I may as well just whitewash over as I have up until now. I'd like a coating which makes it unsatisfactory to attempt to write again, because the writing won't 'stick'. I think I heard about it while waiting on a train platform, from the man who was working at applying such a thing as we chatted.

Cassimer, I see what you mean, but I'm sceptical about how far I'd get! (Clue: the firm's logo is a big yellow letter of the alphabet). Our lane was little-used except by dog-walkers - who in my experience aren't given to writing on walls - until that establishment opened, and immediately became a magnet at school chucking-out time. A neighbour seized upon the resulting litter nuisance, and a token effort was at first made, even a member of staff trawling up the lane picking up the rubbish. But that soon was abandoned, so I think they've taken the attitude that it's not their problem. Been on to the school, too, because the litter and graffiti were only part of the problem - we've also had our back gate kicked in, wheelie bin hurled over a nearby steep bank, and missiles in the form of - guess what? - the milk cartons provided by That Place to put in tea & coffee, flung against the windows. The Vice-Principal followed up neither an e-mail nor a phone call.

You would think we were living in some dodgy, run-down area where everyone has few prospects and fewer hopes, but that's far from the case. It seems these things are done 'for fun'.

-- answer removed --

I've heard that "That Place" is responsible for their litter and presumably other problems relating to their presence. A family friend once slipped on a wrapper outside a "restaurant", did her back in and was unable to work, and I think she's successfully claiming compensation.

Get back in touch with the manager and tell him that you're going to the local paper about it? Just a thought...

But yes, I have heard of anti-graffiti paint, but only in that it makes it easier to wash off.

Go to the press and complain LOUDLY to restaurant, school and council. That should do the trick. Or get a huge vicious guard dog with a taste for Maccy D's!!!
