I have recently had this boiler fitted and and have two problems .

Problem 1. I have noticed that intermittently it makes a sound as though someone had flushed the loo it only lasts for a few seconds - is this normal?

Problem 2. Also since getting the boiler when the central heating is on there is an intermittent ticking sound which is very annoying. At first I though it was in the new radiator which had been fitted in the airing cupboard but realised it is in the system somewhere I have had the company who fitted the system out and the man said he thinks it is a loose piece of solder in the new pipes that were fitted with the boiler he has suggested a system flush to try to dislodge the solder.
I would appreciate any advice.

Hi the first problem could be due to the pressure relief valve operating, this is a safety device that prevents overpressure within the closed loop radiator system that can cause ruptured pipes if the pressure raises to high.

The second problem could quite possibly due to the pipe work expanding and contracting with the flow of water through the system, if it is more noticeable when the heating first kicks in and after it has turned off then this is most certainly the case. Nothing you can do to stop it I am afraid, however it is a sign that your boiler is working well and pushing hot water quickly around the system.

Just noticed that you had replied to my query HouseHusband - thank you very much I don't feel so worried now.
1. Check the system pressure .. Should be a small pressure gauge in the boiler controls somewhere. It would only vent off when pressure gets to around 3bar. That is a standard setting. Pressure should be 1 bar approx cold, and may rise to maybe 2 when rad system is hot. It would not keep venting off like that .. just initially when hot, if it were the pressure high.
Also possible is some air going through the system periodically. If this sounds like it may be air, find any bleed points as in manual you should have, and give a little bleed to check. There may be one at the top of the heat exchanger in boiler.
2. Entirely possible. It is not heat expansion creaking a pipe somewhere then?

Thank you Allbags will check this out.
Usually the ticking you describe is the result of
the pipes expanding through a tight spot. It's
easy to check just put the heating on with the
boiler temperature on really low, if the noise stops
it proves it's expansion.
