Does anyone know where I could purchase a blue japanese rose rosa rugosa or seeds to grow one from this country? I know you can send abroad for them on ebay but having read sellers' feedback am loathe to do that.

Apuldrum roses might do it they used to have a few rugosas on their list...the'blue' one is actually a manky mauve though....even the HT blues never get beyond a lavender tone... the pictures on websites are often overcoloured...

I've just had a look on their site and nothing comes up for blue rose but thanks anyway and for the additional info.
must it be rugosa? there are some superb lavender blue HT's with superb fragrance

I was asking on behalf of my grand-daughter who has asked me if there is a really blue rose as the Blue Japanese Rose Rosa rugosa looks in pictures but as rowanwitch says they are often overcoloured.
yes they are...and in catalogues too.

this image is about how they look

It is likely genetic modification will bring a true blue rose in the next 10 years or so...but for the moment there is no blue gene in the rosaceae family so it would have to be created artificially and of course society would need to accept genetically modified plants in domestic gardens.... Lots of other good blue plants out there though...
There's a stunning & unusual floribunda called Rhapsody in Blue, not true blue but the fragrance is amazing.

I had that one Robi...it was blue for a year and has turned red!! not the briar rootstock, the rose itself has reverted...it was lovely though
oh that's a shame woofy, my sister's had one for years.
Its a lovely deep violet shade...and I agree about the fragrance...veilchenbleu the old fashioned rambler is a dusky shade like blue moon...also a nice rose in its own right
I am going to try again

Thanks everyone for your replies and the links woofgang and Robinia. The images certainly don't look like the extremely blue one on ebay!
