I recently had a brick weave patio laid and within a matter of weeks I have noticed a white powder forming on top of some of the bricks. I am led to believe that this is called ' Efflorescence’ and despite me rubbing it away with a stiff brush on numerous occasions it is still coming back. Does anyone know of a way to stop this happening at all? I would appreciate any help, thanks.

It is. Will eventually disappear. 'Sweeping' with a stiff broom/brush will help. Its just the salts in the bricks coming through. Won't be able to stop it until it does stop all by itself. Can take a couple of years.
Lindy's quite right Pacha ............but there is such a thing as a "salt neutraliser"

but I've never used it so I'm afraid I don't know how effective it is.

Lindylou, The Builder thanks ever so much for your advice. It looks like I might go for the long haul and wait for it to disappear itself. It’s good to hear that it will eventually go on its own. Anyway thanks for your prompt replies, much appreciated. Pachacaid.
