Is it still possible (and straightforward) to exchange local authority housing please?
Are there any websites.
Also, as I dont seem to get email alerts to answers, it may take me some time to thank you all for your help.

if you google it there are a few websites you can join and list your swap,try homeswappers but i think there is a small fee for that one good luck
Your local council should have a swap / exchange list , my friend wants
to move 6 miles , you would think he wanted to move to the moon as the
barriers are down if you have adequate housing , So good luck .

As Theonlyone states, councils operate their own exchange lists. Just look on the appropriate website. My local council's site also includes a link to this service:

They all seem to charge now ,i was with one 2 years ago and forgot my password i have just signed up again and found my old listing

Thanks everyone. Really helpful, will make use of the links.
The lists at my council office covers literally the whole country..I live in central London and the lists cover all boroughs from cornwall right up to Scotland...
