How do you get rid of Thatch in lawns? It has been raked with a lawn rake several times and airated but still persists.

Probably worth hiring a heavy duty motorised lawn scarifier. A few passes may be required and it will make a mess of the lawn so some overseeding may be required. Carry out when the grass is growing strongly to give the lawn a chance to recover, spring or early autumn.

I dont know the company here, but it gives you an idea of the equipment available http://www.erento.co....pment/lawn-scarifier/

Thanks landscaper2.
Greenthumb is an excellent grass treatment company and I think it is available Nationwide. They will scarify and aerate your lawn with heavy duty equipment for very little money. They have made a terrific job of my garden. Just Google them. EllyD.
So will we.............as long as you are in S.E Essex!
You shouldn't be aiming to get rid of thatch as some thatch is good for the lawn. Moss and thatch are two different things however and often get confused. Scarifying cuts through the thatch improving drainage (amongst other things), along with aeration. This along with feeds and tonics (sequestered iron), help to remove the moss and boost the grass.
It is just one of them things that you improve over time through regular lawn care. You can't expect miracle results.
Unfortunately..
