What creatures eat midges?

There are millions of midges in Scotland in summer. Are there any creatures - birds, mamals or insects - that eat midges?

Among the birds, the swallows probably eats the most.
The only mammal that I know of that eat midges is the smaller bats.
Not sure about the insects but I'm sure the praying mantis would not say no to a small snack if they can get hold of them.

Even with global warming I'd question your suggestion that the praying mantis occurs in Scotland.

Whatever, I'll keep my sporran covered.

Dragonflies will eat adult midges and many species of fish will consume the larva. Unfortunately midge larve will survive in water too polluted for fish and thrive in any old puddle
