Front Line for your cat (only obtainable from vets)  Quite expensive but worth every penny because it really works.  They spray your home, especially round the skirtings with a good flea killer (I recommend you ask the vet about this as well).  Continue to use the Front Line (Recommended every month - but I use it every two months to great effect) and you should clear up the problem.

Lavender oil a few drops of in a cup of water and spray this on cats bedding, carpets etc...   Fleas hate the smell, it repells them.  Do not use where there are pregnant animals though.

I like the new Frontline Combo (drops down the back of the cats neck) it kills the fleas on the cat & stops them taking over your house by stopping them from reproducing. The usual problem when flea zapping hasn't worked is because they are in the environment by the thousand probably & that is hard to shift. Like Fakeplastic says, it's more expensive than the off the shelf potions...but far better.

Sorry, I don't know what happened there. We took a dog in from a handicapped person who was no longer able to care for her. She brought tons of fleas with her. Frontline as directed worked great. It takes a while as it breaks up the fleas life cycle, but it is the best on the market.

In addition, I bought this product: http://www.healthstores.com/juicers_and_appliances/pest_control/pest_contro_1000.htm

I have not seen any fleas since.

Good luck.

Had the same problem recently but on 2 cats!

Used the drops on the cats and the spray all over the house.  More importantly we tried to keep the cats to an area where we could contain their problem, whilst trying to sort out the rest of the house with the spray.

Like the idea of the lavendar oil though, does this really work??

Supposedly it does - it was on tv yesturday

quick and easy things.... i live in Australia and the BEST thing that I came across was the Flea bomb, you set them and leave the house for about 3 hours - yes they are a bit toxic, but they'll get the eggs and any breeding areas. This will at least give you a chance to start over and use the preventative shampoos and other products.

So, flea bomb the house AND UNDER IT (if you're in a house that is), ensure that you have cut the grass as long grass is a great breeding area for fleas. Make sure that everything of the cats is soaked ie; bedding, etc, and use flea spray on it.

With the cat - frontline is the best i believe. And ...well can you bath the cat without it scratching you?? :-)

Best of Luck

We had great success with Front Line, too.  One other tip - vacuum (Hoover) your house thoroughly, including the chair cushions and sofa cushions, which will help to remove existing fleas and their eggs.

Hi im a Pest Controler, If you have fleas in the home you will need to get the house treated proffesionally, and make sure that when you book the treatment that the company gaurantees there work, I charge about 65.00 for a 3 bedroom house (and no I dont want a job)

You can try products from the vet or pet shop but these products are very smelly and dont work, take my word for it, and if they dont work you have to buy the same all over again, its cheaper to get it done properly in the first place. Take your pets to the vet or buy Frontline to treat them (only available from a vet) good luck

Also remember that when you vacume, your vaccume will be full of fleas and flea eggs so emty it every time you vaccume

Frontline works on the adult fleas only. As there will be eggs and larvae on the floors *whether wooden or carpets* you will  need to hoover throroughly after spraying the house spray. Curtains, bedclothes, you name it, wherever the /Cat goes the spray needs to go too. MAke sure if you have fish you cover their tank or can move them to another room completely til mist clears. Asthmatics, see if anyone else can spray your place for you, or make sure you give yourself enough time to run out of the home once you've sprayed. :-) Pregant people or animals must not inhale the house sprays either, for obvious reasons.

("Acclaim" is a fantastic house spray, again only available through a Vets practice but works wonders.) This will hinder and kill the eggs and larvae to prevent them from hatching. Fleas become active after staying dormant for as long as 6 months (longer at times). Heat and vibrations wake them up! So Winter time they bounce up with the heaters switching on more often and people spending more time at home. Same for Summer, the heat from sunshine etc stirs them greatly.  Once the Cats have had their frontline (it takes up to 24hrs for the liquid to soak into the level just below their skin )this is how the fleas find it as they attempt to suck on the Pet they swallow "frontline" too. And eventually fall off dead. Bless them. You have to attack the fleas whole cycle: eggs, larvae, adults to completely irradicate them.

Hope this helps. *Can you tell i listened to the Frontline talk when i qualified as a Vet nurse?!*

Hi Marvin84.  We don't have 'Under the house' areas here in the UK.  The nearest we get is a cellar and not a lot of houses have them anymore.  I spent  quite a while in NSW with my Aunt and noticed all the houses are raised!

Fakeplastic, alot of the older "housing commision" type houses are raised, and I grew up in one - hence my experience.... these days they are all cement slab here too....

If you've been here lately (say the last 5 - 10 years) NSW has changed in a HUGE way!!...More tolls for a start!! ;-)

Mind you if

sorry about the MInd you if..... dont know what happened there... computer having a windows moment!
Was there in 1999 Marvin and very nice it was too!  I bet it's nice and warm at the moment.
