A dropped kerb usually indicates that it leads to a driveway for parking cars. If there are gates at the entrance of the drive, then no I wouldn't park there. However, if there is a brick wall & no yellow lines etc., then yes I probably would.

don't forget that dropped kerbs are also needed by wheelchair / motorised buggy users & people with prams / pushchairs

the dropped kerb leads to a drive but there are no other parking restrictions down the road. Just because you parked on the drive does it mean I can't park in the road. Other then me blocking someone in is it illegal.

thanks

Yes, it is illegal to park at a dropped kerb, the owners of the property can phone the police and they would tell you to move.
You can be prosecuted for obstruction

Yes of course, parking on the pavement is not only illegal, but ignorant to wheel chair users, etc. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing people having to endanger their lives by having to go in the road, just because some bright spark thought it would be okay to obstruct the pavement. I meant it would probably be okay to park on the road, if it is drop down kerb, directly outside a brick walled garden, but not to actually park on the pavement, or on the special ramps for the disabled, etc.

Parking in front of any dropped kerb is illegal, whether it is in front of a drive or not. This includes dropped kerbs near the end of side roads intended to make crossing easier for pedestrians.

It is even illegal to park in front of your own drive, although if there were no other restrictions you would be unlucky to get a ticket.

Technically, anyone parking on any road can be said to be causing an obstruction.  Before anyone yells at me it was the police who told me that!
Dropped kerbs, as has already been pointed out, are requested for wheelchair users and pram pushers too. I know, cos I asked the council to provide two outside our local school and they were done within a couple of weeks of asking. If you were to park in front of one you would be defeating the object of it being there, ie. access for wheelchairs and pram pushers would be blocked. So, I would imagine it would be illegal to park there. As to whether you would ever actually be prevented from doing so, that's another matter. My friend lives by a school and is blocked in most mornings but, despite complaints to the police, nothing has ever been done about it.
It depends upon the council where you live and if householders that have the dropped kerb report you. In croydon the council will shortley be enforcing illegal parking across residents driveways. They say "Enforcement will only be carried out on request from householder/ occupierswhere vehicle access is blocked. The expection will be for pedestrian acces only, when the parking attendant will issue a fine on their own initiative."
Apparently it is NOT illegal to park in front of a dropped kerb. I have enquired about this. The person has only paid for the kerb to be lowered, this does not mean they own the kerb or the road. As long as a car is roadworthy(MOT and Taxed) then you can park there. Obviously if there is a car in the drive it would be good manners not to, but it isnt actually illegal as the road still belongs to the Highways Dept
