problems lavenders

why have my lavenders started to turn black on the leaves......what can I do to stop this?

Its probably just die back...it happens every year and then you will start to get new shoots coming out the tops of the old Lavender.. when I look at mine I always feel like just ripping it all out as it looks so messy..
I'm always a bit disappointed with lavenders. Although I clip them right back after flowering, sooner or later they start to look 'leggy' and ungainly. Like the previous poster, I am tempted to rip them out.
Lavenders really need replacing about every three years. When your plant is a year old take some cuttings, keep them in pots in a sheltered place & by the time the old ones are past their best you'll have new, free plants which are big enough to take their place.
