how do i kill a tree, is there a poison ?

Hi Fireblade, This question has been asked here before and the best answer is to cut it down. If you attempt to kill a tree, it will die slowly. In doing so it becomes a risk to humans and structures as it weakens and can come crashing down in a storm. Putting copper nails in it won't do it either.

Knock a copper nail into it.
This is a method used by tree surgeons when they want to stop a stump from re-growing.

 

As Newt says if you do kill a standing tree it becomes a danger but you can kill them or the stump after it's been felled with something like SBK or Trichlopyr. 

The copper nail idea does NOT work, it's an old wives tale.  There are some very good tips on trees on the link below. I will add that the RHS often uses copper tacks to attach labels to trees and shrubs
