Can anyone help me? I am trying to find out what a certain shrub is. It has a low growing habit with medium sized fleshy, ribbed leaves, bright red stems and purple berries at this time of year.

Could be Callicarpa americana (purple beautyberry)

Thank's for that but unfortunately that's not it.
post a photo of it on here and I should be able to ID it for you. Use photo bucket or tiny pic to upload a link.
Could be Dogwood, this has red stems, You good try googling Dogwood, there may be a picture.
Where are you?
Could it be a snowberry?
