Just rubbed some bird mess off the car with fairy liquid and the 'wrong' side of a washing up sponge .. I now have a round matt area on the bonnett instead of shiny. Would black car polish, just on this area, get rid of this or would I have to polish the whole bonnet? Any answers gratefully accepted please !

You will possible have to respray the bonnet as you have taken the lacquor off. My sister did the same thing along the drivers side of her volvo
I hope you get your answer - I would suggest reposting in motoring section and they'll look after you - but just for your (and others') information, bird poo destroys car paint work and needs to be removed fast, but washing up liquid contains a corrosive salt that also hurts the paint/laquor, as you've discovered...

Right , it should not be a problem to get it shining again , firstly try polishing it with some good quality car polish , (autoglym or similar) this should make the swirls caused by the abrasive pad less noticeable, polish it and polish it again till it shines back up, hopefully it will shine again , if you are unsure call in at a local bodyshop and they will machine buff it out if they can for a minimum charge .

Someone has given me some T Cut. Do I just use it in the place where it is damaged or all over the bonnet? Does the car have to be dry? (It's raining now!)
