For a 2 bedroom house with one double bedroom and one single bedroom, but with a single person occupying the large bedroom and another single person occupying the small bedroom, what proportion of the rent would you say each person should pay?

50/50

You only sleep in a bedroom, you share the rest of the house

I don't know how old you (or the people sharing if it's not you) are but it sounds like somebody's not getting over the idea of not living in their bedroom and actually living in a house.
I agree 50/50 as they are both using the same amount of gas and electric and both are filling the bins with rubbish....
Well I wouldn't be very impressed if I was in the small room and was paying the same amount as someone in a much larger room.
20 quid more a month for the bigger room.My son and his student friends have always done this.(:O)
I would divide by 3 and the one in the single room pays one third.

You should work out payments on optimum occupation. A double and single room has three so is divided by three. If a single person wants the larger room they pay for the privilage of doing so.

50/50 is unfare on the single room tenant. Even though a single person in the double room only uses the same amount of utilities it is thier problem as they want the bigger room. Unless the utilities are calculated seperatly from the room rent of course.

What would happen if the person in the double room moved a partner in? If you didn't divide the payments up in a fare manner then at least one person is going to be put out.
Divide by 3, dbl room occupant pays two thirds.
Sorry just re read what I wrote about 50/50 split.

Utilities should always be split equally between tenants when bills are not included in room rent and phone bills should be itemised.

Occupency levels should always be used when working out how much should be paid.
I don't agree with paying 2/3s. If they were to take a third sharer, those in the double room should pay less each as they are having to share.

I agree with Vinny - a small increase for sole occupation of the bigger room, but not paying two thirds of the rent.
