If you decide to go for a container plant you can choose when to plant, for bare rooted plants either the end of October/beginning of November or the end of March/ early April.

Thanks Bromsgrove. Actually I am completely nil in gardening, but just liked a plum tree saw in a friends garden so thought about getting one in my own garden. Do you need special skill to plant a tree or is it easy? and which type is easier to plant and look after?
Hello! I think the first rule is to dig a large hole, giving the roots room to develop. If you are planting from a container plant to the depth as used in the container, from a bare rooted stock have the graft above soil level. This is easy to spot a swelling towards the base of the stem. The size of the tree is important. Unless your garden is large go for a dwarf rooted stock- a garden centre should be able to advise on this. From them you should be able to get a stake and tie which you use at the same time as planting. As for variety you will need a self- fertile one. a good plum is Victoria, it is important that you will plant one you will enjoy eating. Hope i have not made this sound too complicated, if I can be of further help post again. I'm sure you will soon be enjoying your tree throughout the seasons.

No that is fine and I really appreciate that. I have decided to have a go like you said. Thanks.
I planted a Victoria plum tree three years ago keyplus. The first year it did nothing. Last year, 5 baby plums arrived. This year - 6 average-sized ones were there. Next year.....might start producing a crop!!
