I find a large German Sheperd is very effective plus you have a good friend to keep you company, we dont live in a remote area but we don't worry about burglars either & Mrs P is never worried when she is in by herself with just Max for company

remote (r-mt)
adj. remoter, remotest
1.
a. Located far away; distant in space.
b. Hidden away; secluded: a remote hamlet.

So it's both. Please disambiguate with me in future before answering.

;) Just kidding.
If a dog is impractical, get some geese.

They will squawl and geek and cluck at anybody approaching the property and you can have some lovely free range eggs and a goose each Christmas.

Burglars do not want to be seen as equally as they do not want to be heard. A goose or geese is better protection than most alarms.

I am with Blades_fan. I have the razor wire electric fence rhodesian ridgebacks no ak 47 of fn but browing 7mm under my pillow.
I have a 14 stone English Mastiff. Very effective. I also have 5 lever arch locks on all my doors and window locks downstairs.
Always leave a light and radio on if you're not there after dark.
Collapsable grills or polycarbonate secondary glazing on all windows.
High quality wooden or composite doors with BS rated locks.
Pref additional reinforcement around hinges and locks.
Decent monitored alarm system but don't expect response within 45min ie Telly and oil paintings may be gone but any valuables in a decent safe will still be there.
CCTV recording will show any idiots and is worth having but pros will keep faces covered.
Geese are great. I've even been to small domestic burglaries where the family dog has been killed or badly hurt.

That's 2 shout outs for the geese! I did get approached by them on entering one drive once and the racket/fright factor is amazing. Popular in Roman times...

Thanks for the link, Roaldo, does that include remote access from somewhere else? :0p
