Does anyone know why my bungalow roof has lots of moss on it but none of the other normal houses in the street have moss on their roofs.

Is it shaded by trees
Do all the properties in your area have the same roofing material ? I wonder if that's the reason.... I've just had a look at my neighbours - the slate roofed ones have moss growth but the concrete tiled roofed ones don't appear to have any....

Property is not shaded by trees but I have just looked at my neighbours roofs again and those look like slates whereas mine look like the concrete tiles. However this is the opposite to what Jugglering has noticed.
Does anyone know if the moss does any harm and should it be removed.
thanx
Worry not Gibba....................unless it gets to the point when it prevents the water from running off, it'll do no harm.
It can grow on any rough suface, ie water and soil is held on each tile. Slates and tiles come in both rough and smooth varieties - so everyone's right!
Many years ago when I was in the scouts I remember being told moss will grow on north facing trees and houses so if I got lost it would help to go in the correct direction, and of course your can apply this theory to your house, maybe.
