Hi
I would like to re stain my green fance with a dark brown stain, I have tried applying creosote and the green colour is showing through? and I am wondering that the green stain is an oil based stain? do i need to put a primer on first then re stain dark mbrown?

Hi Jo,

Try Cuprinol or Fencerite. Most fence paints are water based but you can mix some linseed oil into them which makes them thicker. I changed my brown fence to green in this way without a problem. The reason I did this was that I started to paint it brown again and my neighbour complained that the brown was seeping through on to her green, so just to oblige I changed to green. Hope this helps.
