A Costa Rican 'artist' starved a dog to death in a gallery installation.

http://pluginamp.com/network/node/3575 is the link to the story (safe as far as I know).

There is a link on that page to an online petition to stop him from doing the same this year (this was actually seemed to be art by the gallery in question, so they have invited him back). I am appalled. The pictures are unpleasant, so don't scroll down the link page if you don't want to see them.

I signed this last week, from what I gather it was such a success he has been invited to do it again this year, hence the petition. Although I have also heard on another site, that the 'artist' was merely highlighting the plight of dogs on the strees, and proved a point as people merely walked past not noticing the dog. It went on to say that he adopted the dog and it didnt die. Dont know as I believe that though, as why leave it in an art gallery tied up in such an awful state.

Hi jules, apparently he had a number of stories, which changed depending on who he was talking to, and where they came from, and how outraged their response was. He said the dog dies, but it wan't eating and would've died anyway, then he said he did it to highlight the plight of street dogs, then he said he did it to make a point, so really he is just a liar with many faces.

I am appalled that this could happen once. Why couldn't he just have taken photos of street dogs? That would be harrowing enough for me...
Disgusting.

noknowledge, your comment was timely, appropriate and so very, very necessary.

hi leela, I signed this last week after receiving it on email.

I don't know which is true about the dog living or the dog dying but either way I would love to shove him in a corner and starve him so he knows what it feels like :(

Question Author
Ah I so agree. Regardless of what happened to the dog, his "art" was entirely inhumane.
PS IS that you, pixi?! x
yep its me leela :D

It is now being claimed that this was a hoax all along to bring attention to the fact that homeless starving dogs all over the world get no recognition, but take one and put it on show and the whole world is up in arms. They also claim it was fed while it was there, and then released back onto the streets where they had got it from.

Thanks for the update lankeela. What do you make of it?
