It should be at least 3' down for frost protection, but deeper if possible.
For domestic cold water supply, it used to be a minimum of 30ins. This has become a minimum depth of 750mm, But there's also a maximum recommended depth of 1.35m.
i had a new feed to the house last year it had to be over 2 foot 6 inches down .the water board came to check the depth before it can be recovered.
