My palms are turning yellow. What is missing in the soil?

It sounds as if they are suffering from something called chlorosis. Yellowing leaves are a sign of this. Easily remedied: buy some sequestered compound from a garden centre. Follow the instructions and you will see a very quick improvement within a week or so. Chlorosis is often due to poor drainage or too much lime in the soil.
If your palm is in a pot, it could be rootbound. If repotting, try and pry some of the roots loose and use a pot that is 2" larger. Newt
