changing a fuse.

can anyone please please help me and tell me how I do this.

I am a bit thick when it comes to things like this and my dishwasher wont work.

Oh my god Ethel. I wouldnt have a clue how to check what caused the fuse to blow in the first place. Would it be best to get an electrician in?

ALSO WHILST ON . I am going to paint my kitchen window sill this morning. for some reason it has kind of bubbled with bits of wood coming through. Should I just sand down these bits and THEN gloss over it.

get an electrician in? ,,have you not got a friend who can show you ? it is a very simple job to change a fuse.ie remove old one put in one of the same 3 amp 5 amp 13 amp etc..As for painting the window sill rub it down well with sand paper use some undercoat then when dry use a couple of coats of gloss only do this if the weather is going to be dry .If it rains before the paint has dried properly the paint will bubble again.Ps only paint the surface if this is also dry and clean.Hope this helps

Thanks Slark. I did this like you said and switched on the dish washer only it started smoking and no water was coming through. You may think I am joking but I am not honestly. Also my washing machine has stopped emptying the water. Shall I call a plumber to do the whole lot.

I am seriously cheesed off now.

Sorry to say this katie but you need a new dishwasher and I take it the fuse has blown at the consumer unit, sorry laymans terms is fuseboard.

Now get back to me on this on chatter bank and will try to talk you through it.

you may not need a new dishwasher, just because it is smoking doesn't mean it is damaged beyond repair. get a domestic appliance engineer in to look at it, not a plumber.

Also with the washing machine not emptying water the chances are it is either the pump or the pump filter blocked, if it is the filter many machines will have an access panel near the bottom of the machine that will let you remove the filter and clean it, however be warned that doing this when the machine is full of water will empty a lot of water over the kitchen floor, again a domestic appliance can easily sort this.

The only thing I will warn you about is there are a lot of dishonest domestic appliance engineers out there (and some very good ones) the dishonest ones will replace your pump and charge you for a new one when all is needed is the old one cleaned out, they will then clean out your pump and that will be next one they fit as new to the next person they rip off.

I know this as it is the reason I quit may job repairing washing machines as I refused to rip people off in this way which didn't go down well with my boss at this time.

I have a Polish friend coming in today and he is good at everything from tiling to carpeting from plumbing to electricity. He is going to do a days work around the house for me for �50.00. 8 hours, putting up shelves, sorting out all my appliances etc. I am grateful to him should he turn up. If not his bedroom is right next to my little girls and I am going to get a hammer and bang on the wall if he isnt here.

Thanks guys but I read that AFTER he had been. The dishwasher he tells me needs a new motor but he was able to fix the washing machine !
