hi we had a new gas meter fitted last year and ever since its been done we havent been able to use the gas fire; it cuts out after about 90 seconds. The supply to the gas hob seems to be fine. Are there any checks we need to do to the fire?

hello it sounds like you may need a new thermacouple, its a safety cut off device. For peace of mind get a Corgi registered bloke in to have a look. First off though i would try and run a hoover round the underneath if you can as it may just be dusty
if your not a corgi registered gas engineer then there are no checks you can do yourself to the fire.
When the new meter was fitted the engineer should have checked to see that the regulator was set correctly by performing a working meter pressure test.
i would suspect that the fire is in need of a service, the thermocouple could need replacing as already suggested but its more likely to be a blocked pilot injector or head.
Get a gas engineer out to attend the fire and if he cant find anything wrong with i he can also check your gas pressures and if the meter regulator is incorrect he can call national grid gas out to fix it (free service)
