I have a new home with an Ideal standard toilet. The flusher is in the centre of the lid and prevents the lid from lifting and prevents access. Any ideas on how I get it off?

Why don't you phone the local plumbing shop, they'd be able to help you.
I assume it has push button flushing, you need to remove the push buttons, this is done by inserting a piece of card between the botton and the surround, lift button up along with piece of card and then undo screw located under button to remove lid.
