We keep finding them in our house. They're absolutely tiny, no more than 1 or 2mm across, with clear wings. They don't seem to bite or anything, just fly around and annoy us. What are they and how can we get rid of them?

I heard they might be 'fungus gnats' and come from the soil of potted plants.

They probably are fungus gnats. You can use an insecticide that contains pyrethrin or pyrethroids to control them. The best method though is prevention - dont over water any plants and place gravel or bark on the surface of the compost as a mulch.

Or they may be Fruit Flies, if they're gathering round your fruit bowl, or hovering near your wine glass, in which case they will have a quick and happy ending as they love alcohol.
