I have had some lounge curtains made, in a heavy damask type fabric, the hems are hand sewn and are rolled under, not ironed. When they hang, the hem doesn't 'curl around' properly as they have a hem, they almost go to a point. Is there any way I can get them to hang better, I was thinking of putting a bit of string around the bottom until they lay right ? And how to I get the bottom to curl around properly ?Thanks all.

Sorry didn't explain myself very well. The hem is around three inches deep, curls under and is hand sewn and not ironed. Because it is heavy and rolled under, it does not curve at the bottom properly, it just sticks out without any shape. Thanks !
I'm still can't picture how they look but do the curtains have weights at the bottom to help them hang?

A bit like thei: http://www.terrysfabrics.co.uk/prod/tapes-habe rdashery/general/glam-white

Sorry pictures are so BIG !!
I am having a spot of bother understanding the effect you are trying to achieve here. However professional curtain makers that I know do not pay for weights they u se two pences glued together instead , actually loads cheaper than buying a weight. If you wnnt to temporarily weight them into shape I would get some cheap packing tape then a load of 2p s and make a big stripe of tape across the kitchen table space the 2p s across it then make another pass with tape across the top so no sticky gets on the material safety pin the weighting on for a couple of weeks til they settle how you want then cut tape and get your two pences back. Hey presto!!!

By the way they have proper weights sewn in at all the hems, one at each end and a couple at each width. But why do they hang with a 'point' instead of curved around the hem?? Is it becuase they are hand sewn and bulky and can I do anything ?? Otherwise, they are very well made, sorry pics are so large, but should give you an idea. Thanks again all.
If these are recently hung, and theres a lot of material they need so settle. In the past I have used soft pegs to encourage perfect folds ... but it is pesty if you want open and close them every night the tape trick is quicker and more flexible so quicker with pins or safetys if you have kids.

Thanks sense4all, all I want is nice curves around the hem ! Perhaps I will try the 2p piece trick. !!
If you have had these curtains made, I imagine that they will have cost you a fair bit.
COMPLAIN.
The people who made them should have pressed them correctly !
They also look as if they are touching your floor thus the self weight of the curtain is not weighting them down and so not allowing them to hang properly - you might wish to suspend them on a higher row of the curtain hook tape - this would also hide the curtain rail ! If this resolves the problem, then you could either get them shortened or raise the curtain rail (probably the latter is the cheaper option!)

Brumas, could I iron them myself, I did wonder about that -- would that make them hang better ?
