Painting new pea shingle on wall

Can anyone advise whether I need to apply a sealant to a new wall covering of pea shingle before painting? If so can you advise best type.

wont you be using something like dulux weathershield, which would act as a sealant
and would,nt a sealant leave a smooth surface that would be difficult for paint to adhere to
On new rendering you MUST dilute the 1st coat of paint by 20% . This allows the paint to soak into the render. Allow it to dry, then paint it again with undiluted masonry paint. If it's on new pebble dash as you say, then don't use a roller..you end up pulling off the pebbles. On new work I use a cheap block brush that you can buy from B&Q.
