Bungalow to me says 'old' . I visualise rows of neat and tidy gardens, pristine decoration and boring. Just my opinion and not meant to be offensive.
I think as people get older they do start to find stairs difficult to manage. Lots opt for bungalows for that reason.
I've got a bungalow and i'm not old ,bought it as I hated cleaning the stairs .But it is not on an estate , most of them are in rows as Lofty said . A lot of people downgrade to Park homes (posh name for mobile homes ) to free up the equity , know some one who has just done it and now has 100k in the bank.
Also, I hate sleeping at ground level. It makes me feel insecure. I suppose I will have to have a stairlift. I wish you had said 'people over 70 or even 80'JayCee - apparently 50 is the new 40!

Those park homes seem a good idea. The only thing is I would like one in the middle of a wood with no neighbours.
I would say bungalow. There was a time when I was a kid, all the bungalows in my street had lovely old couples living in them. Nowadays they've all been given to 30-something drug addicts :(
well i live in a large 3 bed house and i have for nearly 20years and i won't be moving anytime soon nor will i see 50 again, whar a daft question,
As long as one is able to walk up sets of stairs then the physical advantages of living in a house are beneficial. Climbing up and down stairs is a very good form of exercise. In fact it may be the only form of exercise that many older people get.
