my small downstairs (and only) bathrom needs a makeover. there's no central heating in there and this past winter was a killer in there, with condensation! i want to get it started fairly soon (by professionals lol), so does the heating need to be installed once the old tiles have been ripped off... or do we decorate in the new tiles then the heating goes in? what would you recommend, one of those towel radiators, or underfloor heating? which is better value for money? thanks

Hi hotpink, Have the heating put in first, then tile, go for a towel rail and underfloor heating, it is brilliant money well spent, well that is what i would do, good luck, Ray

Don't forget that any electrical work done in a bathroom must be done by an electrician who is part P registered
I would have thought tiling first made it a lot easier than having to tile around a radiator (unless the radiator can be removed prior to tiling) I'd definitely go for a heated towel rail (ours works on central heating or electric so can heat the bathroom on cold summer mornings without having the central heating on) they keep the bathroom lovely and warm and the towels dry. I have a bathroom carpet down on tiled floor so didn't go for underfloor heating. With both forms of heating it could get quite hot in a small bathroom.
I only mean the pipework, not the Raditor/Towel Rail, if you tile first the pipes are on the surface and that is ugly.when we re-fit bathrooms all the pipework etc is done first.
Should have also mentioned, the underfloor heating is controlled by a thermostat so you have it as cool or warm as you want it.

so the old tiles should be removed first, then heating pipes put in first, then new tiles, then have the radiator fixed up?
Hi again, that should be the way it is done, once you have decided what sort of towel rail etc you want, get the plumber to look at where you want it to go,he will advise you as to wether it is possible, then tiles etc can be removed, the plumber does his work, you retile, the plumber comes back and connects, bingo, if you are doing the underfloor heating, that can also be done after the plumber has put pipes in, then have the floor tiled, before the wall tiles, hope this makes sense. good luck, Ray
