Lawnmower Issues!

Hi all. Bizarre question, but my Flymo died recently so I borrowed a Qualcast 320 rotary mower. When I cut the lawn yesterday i noticed that it seemed to take a lot off, however it left a lot of long straggly lengths of grass sticking up. Any ideas?, it did cut the majority very short indeed so it's not a problem with the height setting (I think!)
