chiminea smokes alot!

hi there,
Just got a new cast iron chiminea and I put 3 bits of homebase chiminea wood in and lit it, it was ok at first then it started bellowing smoke out of the top and front and I mean so much I had to extinguish it, I thought they didnt smoke much, am I doing something wrong, also when do I use the lid?

Hiya scotsgal, you use the lid to stop the rain getting in .
but not when you have a fire on the go.You will get smoke when you first lite it,(was the chiminea left out in the rain with no lid on)but after a bit it should be okay.
I always buy bags of wood and store them in the shed.dont be put of by the smoke,keep useing it till you get use to it.

Hiya...You can buy sacks of logs at most garages.
I used a compressed log once,and it smoked to.just make sure the logs are dry and use some kindling wood,and burn it for at least 15 minutes before you put the logs on.try to use small logs(less smoke)btw when you first use it the paint on it as to cure so you will get a bit of smoke to start with.but dont buy them compressed logs..goodluck..(:O)
